Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) is a versatile and safe chemical that finds a variety of applications in many everyday products. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is produced as a result of 4 key steps:

  •   Calcination (H2): Limestone is heated at about 1000 degree centigrade in a kiln to produce quick lime.
  •   Hydration/slacking (H2): The quick lime is in a pebble for mat at this time. It is mixed with water to form a hydrated lime slurry, called milk of lime.
  •   Carbonation (H2): The milk of lime slurry is then treated with Carbon dioxide (CO2) and converted to Calcium Carbonate.
  •   Filtration and Drying (H2): The CaCO3 formed is in a slurry form which is then filtered and dried into a powder.

As PCC undergoes these chemical processes, it allows us to remove these impurities. The resulting purer Precipitated Calcium Carbonate lends itself to more advanced applications.
